The Listening Place Welcomes Legislators

The Listening Place of Howard County hosted the community and local legislators during our recent Legislative Advocacy Week. In addition to Maryland Delegates, Vanessa Atterbeary and Emily Shetty, attendees included Howard County officials such as the Chief of Police, the State’s Attorney, the Director of the Dept. of Social Services, and the Sheriff.
CAC Director, Lt. Michele Denton gave a presentation on why CACs are so important and what a child would have experienced without the benefit of a child advocacy centers. She explained the operations of a CACs including the Multidisciplinary Team process for handling abuse cases.
Visitors also received a tour of the Listening Place and had an opportunity to have their many questions answered. Lt. Denton thanked legislators for helping to pass legislation on mandated reporting of child abuse and support for child advocacy centers and spoke of the need to elevate the creation and distribution of child pornography a felony offense.
