Working with Victims with Intellectual Disabilities

January 29 @ 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Studies show that our population with intellectual disabilities suffer abuse at a rate much greater than those without intellectual disabilities. These especially vulnerable victims are in need of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) familiar with their specific needs and abilities. During this webinar, we will look at those studies and use two case studies that highlight the differing needs and abilities of these particular victims. You will also learn about investigating and prosecuting cases involving this population of victims and using expert witnesses to present these cases to a jury.

Upon completion of this webinar, you will be able to:

  • Recognize characteristics which contribute to the increase in victimization seen in the studies
  • Identify those special needs and abilities that MDTs should recognize and know
  • Leverage new ways to investigate and prosecute cases, and assist a jury in understanding this population
