Maryland Children’s Alliance is pleased to present a virtual class in Advanced Victim Advocacy. This FREE class is open to experienced – at least two years, please – victim advocates working within a member Child Advocacy Center.
Thursday, November 19, 2020
9:30 AM to 3:00 PM
Includes three 90 minute sessions and two half hour breaks*
Victim Advocacy specialist, Janet E. Fine, M.S., will lead the sessions, featuring:
(1) A Holistic Approach to Victim Advocacy: Exploring Needs and Desired Outcomes for Children & Families
This session will provide a holistic framework for understanding the core needs of individuals impacted by abuse and violence and the central role Advocates play in helping families achieve desired outcomes regarding safety, healing, and justice. Participants will explore the strengths and challenges of their role as an MDT member and the importance of seamless coordination with their colleagues.
(2) Who is My Client? Understanding and Addressing the Co-occurring Needs of Children and Their Caregivers
This session focuses on the co-occurrence of child abuse and domestic/intimate partner violence and polyvictimization in families served by CACs. It will enable participants to examine the central role of advocates in addressing the complex needs of non-offending caregivers and the challenges of doing so within the context of a multidisciplinary team response.
(3) Exploring the Impact of Work-Related Trauma Exposure – Building Resilience
CACs serve individuals who may have experienced multiple forms of trauma historically and presently. Victim Advocates can better respond to the needs of their clients, and address their own needs in the process, by employing a trauma-informed approach that requires being vicarious trauma-informed as well.
4.5 CEUs available!
*Participants must have access to a computer with a webcam and a microphone and be willing to keep their camera active for the entire training. CEUs will be provided once the evaluation has been completed.
